My friend got the Saltwater 9/10wt and I liked it so much I had to buy this little guy to keep in the car so I always have a rod! The rod may not have a whole lot of power but it gets the job done and is super fun on little fish! I really love that Cortland has these affordable little setups to help people get into the sport! I’m using Cortland now just because I appreciate the effort to make affordable gear for beginners. If you’re thinking about getting this rod I say go for it it’s not bad at all!

Last year I decided to go ahead and try fly fishing. Planned a great trip to Maine with my Father Learned a lot from him and have been having a blast with this rod. Until tonight. Little snag on a lilly pad leaf, ( no biggy I thought) when I gave a small tug expecting my 3.5 lb leader to snap, instead the pole snapped at one of the guides on the center sections.. ( Still have my fly tho! lol)Now I know this isn't a world class rod, but I'm 54 and have been fishing since I was 6 and I've never broken a rod. That being said, this setup was perfect to get me hooked on fly fishing ( no pun intended) I'm just not sure if I will purchase another in this series.
I like the rod as it is functional and a good value for the price. It works and will catch fish. It’s is a tad stiff and little heavy I’ve found 6wt line to load better and cast easier.
10/10, perfect starter kit
Works flawlessly couldn't ask for better.
